Still progressing

The painting was continuing today.

I remembered the camera

I removed the appliances again after this - 'cause they were purchased separately and aren't insured.
Some super speedy workman putting it in :) (slow shutter speed trying to get the light in - photos are all a bit blurry without a tripod)

Bedroom robe shelving is coming along nicely.

Unfortunately I couldnt walk ont eh tiles to get a pic of the laundry bench through that door, but here's a vanity sans basin.

This is the theatre room bit again. This time sporting our selected paint colour.
In the future I will probably make this room a dark colour to reduce light reflection etc, but for now this will do nicely.

Gable filled. Probably would have looked nicer with no join in the middle. Don't know if that was possible or not, but hopefully once painted it wont be noticeable.

Eaves are all done now too. Here is the mounting for a floodlight.

Nice amount of pantry shelf space.

It's only money...

But which would you rather?
2.5 of these,

or
a house going from frame to lined stage? :)

Our next invoice came in the mail this arvo for another $55K. Only about another 80K to go :P

Open sesame

Been nearly the whole week between posts, so a few new things today, including a garage door that opens and closes by magic! (that's right, I've never had an automatic garage door before :))

Ensuite just waiting for grout.

We have the power!

We've picked our main paint colour - Polar Bear.
The builder set us up this cool little sample display so we could see our colour ideas all together.
The Polar Bear one is the one on the left, next to the hole.

And the bath is in

A small step backward

The plaster/insulation contractors neglected to put insulation in a fair portion of the garage shared wall...
Hmm... any in there

Nope, none there

Not progress, but better cooling efficiency is worth it.

There's one of these too... (gas meter)

Things remaining

The water proofing inspection is tomorrow.

The doors we wanted are $100 each. Our allowance was $50, so we've had to go for the rough version of the smooth ones pictured a while ago, which I think are $45. Also our door handles are $44 instead of the allowed $30, so we'll have to make up the difference there.

Just thinking aloud, here's my 'to-do' list... I'll slowly start checking these off to track the progress on the homeward stretch.

Garage door
Little bit of roof remaining
Gable 'ends'
Eaves
Architraves & skirting

$ = a note for me about things I need to consider the cost of.

I think only this window and the toilet are done so far.

Painting of ceiling starts in the very near future, and will take a couple of days or so, so we need to organise the colours ASAP - preferably getting some sample pots before the decision is due.

Monday 3 December 2007

Architrave starts

Cornice is all in except for the bit around the kitchen cabinets that go to the ceiling.
There's the nice decorative one in the living areas, 90mm plain in the beds/bath etc, and something like 70mm inside the robes. Unpainted as it is, I am quite pleased with the look of the decorative one so far.
The architraves were being fitted to the windows late this afternoon.

A bit :(

I'll have pics probably tomorrow of the plastering progress, which, as at lunch time saw a lot of the cornice up and most of the sheet joins smoothed off etc.

We had a call today from the carpet people. The carpet retailers said the builder had just been in to place the order, but the supplier of the carpet had advised that they were out of stock of the one we wanted and no more would be manufactured until early/mid Feb.
Not that big a deal we thought, we'll just move in without carpet, putting most of our stuff in the garage or something, and when the carpet's laid, move in properly.
Unfortunately our builder told us that we can't move in before the carpet's in (I'll have to ask why as carpet isn't required for an occupancy certificate) AND that the middle of Feb will only be a couple of weeks after the house will be ready anyway... So much for hoping to be in by Christmas!
Our contract says it'll be finished within 20 weeks, plus 10 days, from the 27-8-2007. Which by my calculations is the 25-01-2008.

A very sensible investment for a plasterer.

Through the looking glass

I went by the house this arvo (after knock-off time) to see how the plasterers had progressed, only to find I was locked out :)
I then tried to take some pics of the now significantly covered walls, to then be greeted with a battery low warning on my camera. Not a particularly successful blog making day, but a good progression day for the finishing of our house.

One thing I did discover through the window of our bedroom was that I had somehow missed that the frame had been made with the wardrobe doors way too low... they've made them at standard door height when we wanted the sliding doors to go right to the cornice... oh well. Too late now.

Tuesday 20 November 2007

Gettin plastered

We've picked our cornice. Classicove Sydney from Boral.

The insulation and sound proofing is going in and the plaster sheeting begins first thing tomorrow.

Doors

The house has some old doors on it at the moment so it secured, but the doors aren't at risk of tradey damage.

The real ones will be like this:
Entrance door

Internal Door

Entrance tri-lock

Internal lever set
