Not much

Not as much has happened over the last week. Certainly a contrast to the previous 4 weeks of really fast 'action'.
No pics unfortunately, but the roof is almost covering the whole house now.
The bricks at the front are waiting for the front door jamb to arrive. Its a 1m wide door, so a bit different.
And that's about it...

Slip slop slap

After a few wet days the roofers were back finishing off all the gutters and throwing some sheets up. The pics aren't uploading for me at the moment, so I'll give those a shot later on.

Little bit gutte'd

We had a bit of rain today, but they managed to get some guttering installed.

We also got a power bracket thingy. Bit ugly! But that's what comes with overhead power lines/connections I s'pose.

The bricks across the front, all the window sills and what's left up this side are all that remain to be done.

Gables and facia

They've finished adding in the gable sections to the roof trusses, fixed batons to the trusses and attached the facia all around (pic taken earlier in the day before they'd finished)

They've also moved the windows, which is great, and are going to drill through the brick and get the gas point in...

All sorted so far except for mortar - but that one's too bad, and partly our fault for not being explicit in what we wanted. They really do want to make sure we're happy with the work and I often feel a bit 'slack' when I ask for things without understanding the reason behind it being done a certain way in the first place. In this case the windows were off centre because the framers space them out in x number of bricks.

Actually, looking back through the contract, we were explicit in what we wanted... just hope it gets lighter like they've said.

cookin with gas?

Got some more plumbing in today - a gas line running from the mains to the kitchen for the cooktop and the hot water heater.... but unfortunately it looks like maybe the BBQ connection was forgotten. That is unless it isn't done yet for a good reason.

We have some guttering and facia

Some little brackets to install it onto

and a porch

These walls are complete now except for the sills.

Mentioned the gas to the builder and also requested a cold water tap to behind the fridge in case we eventually get one of those cool cold water filtering/ice making fridges.
I forgot to mention the other day that we also found that the windows in bed 2 and 3 look to be out of centre between the walls... Not sure what can be done about that at this stage. The framers have seemingly stuffed up, but I'm not sure if its better to have the frame ripped apart to correct it, or to live with it.
I guess my enthusiasm has wained a little with the combination of a few things not being quite right and knowing they will never be 100%.

Friday 19 October 2007

I'm tired

Today, we both arranged the day off, but I would have rathered spend it at work.
It began with a 9:00 pick up of a tile sample we liked for the living areas followed straight away with a 9:15 meeting at the kitchen place.
Nearly 3 hrs of colour selections etc later, we'd finalised the kitchen, but because we didn't know our colours for the wet areas we couldn't do those yet, but need to next friday.

Knowing we wouldn't have any time between now and next friday, after a quick bite we tried to select those tiles etc... but to do that we had to decide on carpet.

We finished up at 5pm with these

We then headed out to see the house and found we had most of a roof.

But the more the walls go up, the more the house is just the wrong colour. It's the orange sand in the mortar that has done it... nothing to be done about it now.

A little more

The bricks made if further around the house today and a little bit higher, as they surround the new windows.

The roof trusses are sitting on top of the walls too but my pic of that didn't work due to the sun.

Rough water

Today the plumber has 'roughed in' the pipework.

The bath

Shower - the shower arm connection is higher than standard.

Toilet

Vanity

Hot water heater connections. Outside tap at front corner.

Outside tap along the wall, just this side of where the slab will be.

Garage wall getting some more bricks.

Trusses have arrived

Our first window

Just as we were leaving they started wrapping it in its green blanket.

Which do you a-door?

We've got to go to the building supplies place this morning and finalise the front door selection.

Posting this before we go, we're expecting to choose the 1020mm wide Corinthian Madison PMAD104 with 'rice paper' glass inserts.

We've also 'traded' the raised floor area in the theatre for a bulkhead on the opposite wall (above the TV) and need to work out exactly how high that should be for Monday.

With both the slab and the frame done, we've not received our next bill yet...

6 days

Thursday 11 October 2007

Wow!

I went this afternoon expecting to take those pics I missed from yesterday, and maybe see a wall or two up. Instead, I found....

I'm amazed how fast this is all happening. I have a fairly mundane day at work, and meanwhile the little worker bees throw up a house full of walls.
And we've got water now too!

8 days until it's been a month from the white lines on the dirt.

Wednesday 10 October 2007

We're being framed!

The frame is now sitting on the dirt next to our house...
pics will follow, but I didn't have the camera with me today.

Slab

Monday 8 October 2007

Sunday 7 October 2007

This dirt will be spread out to be level with the inside brick height, and the slab will then fill the lot up to the outside course.

Remember, all the 'dodgy' bricks will be covered by the slab.
